    I have a T400 with a 1.8 inch drive.

I bought a bare 2.5 inch drive for it. I pulled the old drive to install the new drive. The old drive is in a tray that will not fit the standard 2.5 inch drive form factor.

There must be a tray for a 2.5 inch drive. What is it, and how do I get one?

This seems to be such a simple question - but I've searched everywhere I can think - and no answer.

    Thanks!

The 2.5" should fit without any adapters since the HDD bay is for a 2.5" drive.

Do you have the T400 or the T400s? Of these two only the T400s uses 1.8" drives and you can't replace it with a 2.5".

    They're $4 on eBay.

    Sorry, I wasn't specific enough I guess.

    I have a 2764CTO THINKPAD T400 (not T400s)

    The original drive is a 42X6353 SBB 64 GBSOLIDSTDR,SERIALATA
which is a 1.8 inch, 64GB SATA SSD. It's in a little tray/adapter thingy that slides into the drive bay.

I want to upgrade to a higher capacity and faster SSD. 64GB is too small for the OS + programs + working space I need for the programs I run.

I don't want a second drive in the Ultrabay.

So I bought a 128GB SATA SSD and went to swap the drives. I slid the adapter tray + 1.8 inch drive out, and slid the 2.5 inch drive in. The 2.5 inch drive just rattled around in the drive slot.

That's the whole story. Has anyone experienced this issue and/or know how to solve it?

And if there really is an adapter/tray available on eBay - I'm not bright enough to guess the keywords. I tried a few searches with no luck. An eBay item number would be helpful so I know what I'm looking for.

    Thanks again,

Is this what you are referring to? You can probably use an older caddy like this.

Zaz has the part you need. The caddy and rubber rails will keep your 2.5" SSD from rattling. Your existing part is a 1.8" to 2.5" µSATA to SATA adapter (I have the same one for my 1.8" SSD).

Thanks guys. That's exactly what I need. I figured my problem was incorrect keywords for the search. "Caddy" and "rails" are the magic words - "adapter" and "tray" were getting me nowhere.

    Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the answer. Now before I buy a drive - do you happen to know if these will hold a 9.5mm drive like the Intel x25-m G2?

It should be fine as that SSD is the same size as most 2.5" HDDs.
