i have a T400 with 7200rpm HDD. lower right part of the case always seems to have noise coming from it, why is that? is that where the HDD is located?

quite possibly. i don't think it's anything to worry about, pretty much every notebook user hears his HDD spin up.

i dunno. it just seems that when i first got it this didnt occur as often as it does now.

sometimes when i'm using it on battery power, the laptop will be completely quiet, and then the HDD will start to spin and it gets noisy. i understand why this is happening, but i dont mind *****ing on here til i get some answers or solutions :)

do those western digital scorpion drives eliminate some of this noise?

The HD is underneath the right palm rest. However, only in the very quietest of rooms can I hear my HD. As far as I’m concerned, my notebook is almost completely silent.

I thought it was the HDD on my T500 but I'm convinced that it is the CPU Whining issue. Only way to reduce noise is to disable CPU power management in the bios
