Dumb question but are T400 hard drives just a standard laptop 2.5 drive? Also are all T400 screens matte not matter what the option?

    Yes to the 2.5"

    They are all matte.

Cool :) I used the CCP program plus the 5% coupon and got a pretty much loaded T400 with the LED screen for $800 with the ATI 3470 :) Only thing was its only a 160GB 5400 rpm hard drive. But I have a 320GB 7200 rpm WD drive I can put in :) plus 4 gb of ram :)

The hard drives are standard 2.5" wide and 9.5mm tall (some 3 platter notebooks drives are taller than this) hard drives. However, the SSDs tend to be 1.8" units with adapters.

The T400 is a little more complicated because the memory slots are under the keyboard. However, it still only requires a screwdriver.

Its pretty easy to do. Like all things u damage only if youre not careful. After you lift the keyboard out theres a little SU8 ribbon connected to a tab, you pull the tab out and the keyboard is disconnected.

I don't believe you have to remove the keyboard. You just have to remove 4 screws and then take off the palmrest panel (the instructions say you should disconnect the touchpad, but you can just shift it aside a bit), and then you should see the two memory slots.

Read the Hardware Maintenence Manual here for a step-by-step.
