(This is a post I made in another thread)

i'm gonna run some tests but heres something ive been noticing lately.

running in energy saving, maximum battery life mode on my T400 with 9 cell i used to get roughly 6:30 hours using 90% charge capacity and only 2 bars of screen brightness. i browsed the web, using word and excel and average 6:30 hours.

presently, which is roughly two or three weeks later, this has dropped to around 4:30 or 5 hours.

now i dont know if i am somehow misusing it lately, if i'm using it for more power hungry apps, or if the battery has simply lost that much capacity within the past two weeks, but this is upsetting.

now let me say that opposed to school work i used to do, having the T400 on a desk most of the time, lately ive been laying in bed having it on my stomach and just surfing the web. is this somehow causing it to heat up and lose capacity?

furthermore, i know that there was a power manager system update a few days or weeks back. i wonder if that somehow caused this.

(here is the continuation in this thread)

okay after reading all of the above, i'd just like to say that i have also noticed that my CPU usage is around 50% for some reason.

i have ran windows defender scan and just re installed nod32 to ensure that i have no virus or spyware; nothing, all scans came up clean. my computer also seems to be running normally.

i have not had any problems except for this high CPU usage i have just noticed, and I think it may be contributing to the shortened battery life.

so what could it be? i have all windows updates, i have all lenovo updates... please help me out.

    update:

the high cpu usage thing, well i'm slow cause i didnt bother looking in the processes tab to see what was causing the problem.

its a process called igfxsrvc.exe. after googling what it does i found this thread.

    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/eg45m-ds2h-igfxsrvc-exe-high-cpu-28189/

apparently its associated with an intel driver. i havent had any cpu usage problems for the first few months ive owned this, so i'll assume an update caused this. i have switchable gfx so i wonder if theres an issue with that...

well anyway, i'm gonna try to uninstall my gfx driver and reinstall it and see if that helps.

if anyone has any further suggestions please share.

    update 2:

i uninstalled the driver and installed this:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70417

    the problem still exists...

    update 3:

found this thread about the same issue:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=320544

the OP here states that he simply disabled the process from startup and it fixed his problem.

i, however, dont have this process starting at boot so how should i remove it?
