I just received my T400 this week and have been comparing the screen to my normal desktop displays.

Here's a picture of all three, together:

The screen on the left is a 20.1" Dell 2005FPW Ultrasharp. The screen on the right is a 20.1" Dell 2007WFP Ultrasharp. Obviously the one in the middle is the T400.

Unfortunately my 2005 is on its way out, as it's at 100% brightness, and obviously still quite dull, and is extremely difficult to calibrate.

The 2007, however, is at 45% brightness, and has a very even color distribution, having been recently calibrated.

The T400 in the middle is at 100% brightness, with the settings as shipped from Lenovo. It obviously has a higher blue content, as can be seen by looking at the menus on the sides of the notebookreview.com site.

To be honest, the blue content is magnified by the lens of my camera, and of course it's more obvious when side-by-side with my Ultrasharp monitors, but on its own, I really don't notice it. Plus, it's not like I do any photo editing, or really have to worry about the colors.

Anyway, I figured this might be useful to some people. I find the T400 LED screen to be the best I've owned on a laptop, and I've had quite a few, including a Thinkpad X30, Thinkpad T41p, Sony Vaio FS, Sony Vaio FE, Alienware m5500, and Asus W3J+.

The color settings need to be tweaked, but it's almost as bright as my newer Ultrasharp monitor, and definitely easy to look at for extended periods of time.

Thanks for the pic. Yes T400 has very bright screen but viewing angles are very bad and blue tint is noticeable even on LG screens.

I find the viewing angles to be about the same as any other laptop I've owned. I still have my T41p and W3J+, and under direct comparison, it's certainly not worse.

The blue tint is easy to take care of. I'm not sure why people worry so much over this.

Heck, considering I paid $3,000 for my T41p, and only $1,000 for the T400, I have nothing to complain about. :)

How do you fix the blue tint? Is there a calibration/tuning tool for laptop displays that you can recommend?

I am concerned about blue tint because I have 3 T400s , all with LG screens and only one of them is nice and white and other two have the blue tint.
About viewing angles, I have compared it with hp zv5000, dv9000, dv2700, 6910p and gateway MT6840 and I think T400 angles aren't as impressive from my point of view.

have to chime in here. my LG screen is great in all aspects- except the vertical viewing angle. the vertical viewing angle is poor. horizontal viewing angle is fine, though.

What do you mean by that ? when you look straight at the screen does it look GOOD? I ask this because i won't be looking at my screen from a distance at 60 degree angles... infact i will be sitting near people and don't want them looking at my screen.

Are there any pictures comparing the T400 LED screen against the T500 CCFL screen?

I am looking to get either a T400 or a T500, and the LED screen is an important deciding factor in my purchase. Unfortunately, Lenovo doesn't offer 15.4" LED backlit displays at 1440x900 resolution.

    I appreciate all input :)

Seconding this request. Someone said the blue tint is "easy to take care of." So how is that done?

I have a Samsung Touch of Color which in my opinion is one of the brightest LCD's on the market. I'll post a comparison when I get my T400 in.

Wow, that Thinkpad LED screen looks great in that picture. All evenly lit and everything on the screen looks so crisp.
