    Where are you located?
If you're in the US, head over to newegg or zipzoomfly. I haven't found any B&M retailer that sells DDR3 SO-DIMM sticks for cheaper.

You can buy Crucial memory cheaper than direct through Crucial.

Bought a 2GB module from NewEgg this week for $28.99 with free shipping.

Performance really isn't going to differ in this case. As long as they're within minimum spec for the T400, they'll work, and spec among laptop DDR3 SO-DIMM modules doesn't vary a whole lot. However, Crucial has great support if you have a module go bad, so it's still a great choice.
