Hi guys,
I installed new momentus 7200.4 ASG (G-force version) drive in my T400 and only having problem since then. I get this message every once in a while
"Error 2100: Initialization error on HDD0 " and my system doesn't boot at all. Also, I am not running Vista here, just XP so lenovo firmware issue doesn't apply here. Also, my notebook keeps getting locked up while browsing and trying to do something else like zip/unzip files. Also, when I closed the notebook lid to take it to another place in bag, it never went to sleep and it was hot as a toast when I tried taking it out of the bag. All these problems only after installing new seagate drive. Is T400 not compatible with ASG version? My old drive is 200GB momentus without g-force and had been running fine without any problems.
So could it be bad HDD or bad motherboard?
any ideas ? thanks

Might want to try re-seating the hard drive as a first step. -
Thanks Zaz, I did try that without success. BTW, here's the screenshot from HDtune health for my momentus 7200.4.
Seems like "Spin retry count" and some "unknown value" have a yellow warning line on it. Does it mean the drive is bad?
thanks

Call Seagate, they'll probably send you a new drive.
-
is it running as a second HDD, or as a primary ?
if it's as second in ultrabay, then another member on here reported fix of a problem when he switched the HDD to use SATA1 speeds only .. see link on my next post.
mine is running with no problems as a primary HDD. -
Thanks for the help guys.
@miro_gt its running as primary sata-II. Is yours Gforce version or without G-force? -
disregard my post above, the guy did it with a jumper on his HDD. Read here:
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=193775&Hilite=jumper
mine is the AS version, not ASG .. as I have motion sensor in the laptop anyways
hope that helps -
Seagate's S.M.A.R.T. values are not worth much (proprietary crap). Can you show us a benchmark of the disk?
-
Thanks miro_gt, I have always seen the AS version has less problems than ASG. Since I am using this drive as primary and my sata controller supports sata-II I think the jumper trick won't work for me, thanks for the link though.
@Qualityseeker, here's the screenshot with benchmark

Looks normal (that one peak probably was caused by another HD access during the test). Last idea from me: run SeaTools from Seagate which will check the S.M.A.R.T. values: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools
