    Hi there,

    I just tried my friend's new T400.
Overall I think its a cool machine. Solid build quality, good speaker (for me).

However, when I was typing, my right hand palm/wrist area is getting hot to the point that it gets really uncomfortable and annoying.

Is this normal in the new T400?
I am asking this because from all the reviews that I have read, none mentioned about this heat issue in the right hand wrist area.

    TIA :)

in addition to that, I absolutely hate the vertical and horizontal scrolling on it.

I am so used to the 2-finger gesture (i think thats what it's called) on Apples.
    I really miss it.
Is there anyway to get it on Thinkpad? some software or something?

    thank you again :)

Right under the right palm rest is the hard drive. Do you know if your friend had a 7200RPM drive? I had one on my T400, and it tended to get really warm, so I replaced it with a 5400RPM drive.

Not sure if there is software to replicate the two finger touch, but it wouldn't be specific to Thinkpads, it would be for Windows in general.

Its 5400rpm, i just checked with him.

    :)

Other than that, I think the machine is perfect for my budget, except that it is a little bit on the tiny side.

But I understand with the build quality and performance and price, it is a trade-off.

maybe you could get a notebook cooler. I have one, and the right part doesn't really heat up. the t400 is nice, would recommend it. If it's small, go for the t500.

If you are primarily a touchpad user, you can set it so the trackpoint (red nub) can be used for scrolling.

    woops..

    why did I say tiny?
    a total brain fart.

    I meant to say heavy.
    certainly not tiny.
    lol

I have found some leads on the two finger gesture.
    I am gonna try it.

by the way, I just noticed that the screen frame's left and right side is not of the same width.
    It is weird.
    lol

Funny - I have a Hitachi 7200RPM drive (came with the T500), and the right hand palmrest is actually cooler than my left hand palmrest.

My right palmrest never gets warm and I do have a 7200 rpm HDD under the hood. I find overall this notebook is very cool. Much cooler than my old Asus W7S and much color than my old Dell Inspiron 6000 don't even get me started on the pentium 4m Toshiba A35 I had, then you'll know what hot palmrests really are. =P

As for heavy, its light enough for me although that is subjective. I don't go to school anymore and mine just travels around the house with me.

Thanks for the replies guys. :)
    Appreciate it.

Well, my old 12" powerbook is very hot and noisy, so I am glad to play with such a silent and relatively cool laptop.

Weight and heat problem set aside, I am still trying to get the two-finger to work on the machine.

No luck so far. I have installed the driver, but still no go.

Does anyone know if the touchpad is compatible for 2 finger gesture?

    Thanks again
