Since the T400 is for all intents and purposes the same size as the T61 14.1 widescreen (according to the tabook), if you find a good sleeve for that you should be good to go.

I have a Zeroshock III 14-inch for my T400 w/6-cell battery. I think it's perfect. It fits snugly and seems to do a good job of protecting the machine. However, if you have the 9-cell battery I think it might be too small.

I to am looking for a sleeve for my t400 with a 9-cell. afty, when you say snugly, does that mean you are using some force to get it in there? Is it even possible to get a 9-cell in there?

I did a little checking for you guys today. To simulate a T400 with a 4-cell battery, I removed the battery for mine and placed it in the Zeroshock sleeve. It still fits snugly and does not move within the sleeve. This is because the sleeve is rather narrow and just fits the width of the T400. I think it may have been designed for a 14" notebook with a 4:3 screen.

I don't know if it is possible for the 9-cell to fit. When I say it fits snugly, I mean that I have to put a little pressure on it to zip it up. The 9-cell might make the whole thing ever so slightly too big. But I haven't seen a 9-cell battery in real life, so maybe it would work, who knows.

Have you looked into the Brain Cell? It's a bit big because of the suspension cradle but if you want straight-drop protection a snazzy looking form-fitting sleeve is not the way to go.

Thanks for the pictures in advance afty. Also, how does the IBM thinkpad sleeve cover stay close? It looks like the flap simply slides under an elastic strap with no velcro or zipper mechanism to keep it in place.

I use the waterfield sleeve for my x40 (and plan to use one for my X301 as soon as I buy one), and if they dont have your exact size (looks like they only list the T400 with the 4 cell) you just email them the measurements and they will tell you which to get.. they fit like a glove.. I think they are great and have a bunch of options too.

this is the size for the T400 w/ 4 cell

I would check with sfbags.. looking at the sizing chart.. it seems the t400 w/ the 9cell is very similar in size to the t61 w/ 9 cell.

    http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/sizing/ibm.htm

from what I am reading, the t400 without the extended battery is:

    13.2 x 9.2 x 1.3

and w/ the 9 cell is roughly:

    13.2 x 10.87 x 1.3 (based on this link http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=13811)

so it looks like the 27-20 or 27-21 horizontal would be the right size IMHO..

That's right. It does stay in place, no zipper, no dirty velcro :)

@jeffjose: The IBM sleeve should fit that aswell :)

Let me bump this for a sec - has anyone tried the 14" Zeroshock III sleeve with a T400 and 9 cell battery?

I looked around for the dimensions of the sleeve a lot but it seems everywhere it says exterior height 1", interior 1.6", which must be the reverse. If it is only 1" interior, it could get tight I think. Any input?

In case anyone was wondering about my question too - I went ahead and ordered the Zeroshock III 14" to try it out. And, I can fit my T400 with the 9-cell battery in. It is a little tight, but should work.
