press fn+f3 (the battery symbol) the screen will turn off..then touch the touchpad to turn the screen back on..now try dimming the screen...doesn't work...

anyone figure out how to fix this?

also how does a battery button relate to turning off the display? i remember my old thinkpad...the symbol was like a screen

Yes, my old T42p the F3 key had a screen icon and a X next to it. It's now gone in my T61. It's weird.
