Hi,
I got a new T400 with a Mobility HD 3470.
I used to have a t43p that I hooked up to my 40" LCD with no problem. However I cannot get the same results with this T400. I want to output to 1920x1080 on the 40" and make it my primary to play games. however, I am only capable of doing 1600x1200 and the tv stretches it and displays incorrectly. I tried 1920x1200 and it works but the picture is HUGE and i need to scroll just to see any part of it. Why am I unable to make it primary and output at 1080p?
I did a clean install of my own OS on and and downloaded all necessary drivers. The vga driver is the one from lenovo's website.
Please advise. Thanks!

Any solutions or similar experiences?

try using the drivers from the LCD manufacturer. I think the lenovo drivers have issue displaying resolutions on external monitors.
my 19" lcd is native at 1440x900 and does not properly scale to 1280x800. I havent messed around to figure it out though.
again id try different drivers, default windows/lcd brand
good luck! -
Which monitor are you using?
Have you tested the T400 with any other monitors successfully? -
Seems to me like you have cloned displays, select output to external monitor ONLY and then adjust your resolution to 1920x1080.
-
Uhhh How do I figure out who made my display?
I got the 1440x900 LED Backlight display.
I'm trying to output to a 40" Samsung LN40?xxx HDTV.
I've done this with my old t43p and it worked fine. I just attach the 2nd monitor and then set it to primary so videos and games start up on the Sammy.
And wheres the option to output to external only?? It's not in Settings or ATI's CCC -
I use Fn+F7 to cycle through the different display options.
-
No dice. it just isn't capable of displaying at any resolutions other than a stretched 1600x1200.
-
I was able to get 1080 on my t400. I used the intel gfx and standard vga cable. the image was centered on the LCD and I had to "stretch" it on the LCD's settings.
go to samsung's website and try to find the correct driver for the LCD -
There's switchable graphics on the T400?? It's only vista available and in hardware manager->display adapaters -> i have the ati 3400 series mobility and VNC mirror driver.
And its a samsung tv. not a monitor... there are drivers for tvs? -
Try to create a profile using Presentation Director:
1. Press Fn+F7 then select Manage Settings.
2. Press Next.
3. Select Notebook LCD, on External Device select Analog..(VGA) and Extended Desktop. Press Next.
4. On external monitor or projector select 1920 x 1200 and on Primary Monitor Select External Monitor or Projector. Press Next. Accept the warning about not doing the Test.
5. Press Next.
6. Press Next.
7. Type a name and press Finish.
And then follow this to change the 1200 to 1080 in the windows registry. http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=X_Series_Thinkpads&message.id=7390
After you've done the change in the registry press Fn+F7 and select the profile you've created.
PS. I did it with my T500 but used the displayport and an hdmi adapter so it's not the same but it worked for me. -
batmodem-- doesn't work. tv keeps saying "not supported mode" I know it can take an output from laptop as i've done it before. the problem resides on my laptop and i cant figure it out.

right click the power manager icon to switch gfx cards
also are you sure that your tv supports that resolution? I know for a fact that its possible for the t400 to output at 1080 via the VGA cable (not sure how to tell its its 1080i or 1080p).
Does windows vista detect your lcd under the proper make/model or does it just say plug n play monitor?
things to try
1) install tv driver
2) update all gfx drivers
3) check for firmware updates on the tv
also try googling your tv model number and 1080. you might find some info on another forum (avsforum.com is very good) -
How long is your cable?
The T400 has switchable graphics. Are you sure you are on the dedicated graphics card ? -
My tv is capable of 1080p. I've used it as an external/primary on my T43p Laptop before perfectly. I used a 15ft long shielded cable from monoprice and it worked flawlessly.
I have windows XP installed. It's my own copy, not one provided by lenovo. I had to go an install all my own drivers through their website. The only flags that come up in device manager are:
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device.
I don't know what else to install but everything else works fine even with these warnings.
Display Adapters show ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series and VNC Mirror Driver.
Right Clicking on the Power Manager Battery Icon gives me:
Power off display
Battery Stretch
Instant Resume
Remove & Replace Battery
Remaining Percentage
Remaining Percentage in Time
Close Power Manager Gauge
Launch Power Manager.
No option to switch gfx. -
I don't know if it might have something to do but to use XP you must disable the switchable graphics detection in OS and select the graphic adapter to dedicated. Both of these settings are done in the BIOS. I don't think this is it but you should rule out every possibility.
-
like batmodem noted, xp does not support hot switchable graphics. You can change gfx in the bios
under control panel, how many monitors do you show and how are they ID'd? You need a driver for the LCD that tells it that it can do 1080 -
Bios is set to discrete graphics.

try integrated gfx and see if that helps.
also try reading the sticky, inside you will find a clean install guide for xp. see if you missed any drivers that might effect this, its a long shot, but worth a try.
