I've searched through these forums, but haven't found an answer to this question. Its not T400 specific, but I have my eye on this model.

I was hoping the new T400's would have HDMI or displayport, but they only have vga. My tv (42" lcd hdtv) has a vga port, would I be able to hook up a T400 with integrated graphics and have it display? What resolution would it be capable of? Are there any other options?

    Thanks for any input. :)

The Advanced Mini Dock has a DVI port you could take advantage of. In the event that you just want to use VGA, the T400 will have no problem meeting the resolution requirements of your TV.

djh01 is correct, there should be no problem. I have connected by 5 yr old Acer ultraportable with integrated gfx to a 32" lcd tv with no problem.

    Nice, good to hear. :D

But if VGA works so well, then whats makes DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort better?

Not sure but I think they are digital and vga is analog or something...I'm also guessing better quality and/or higher resolution, but again, I'm just guessing.

All three are digital. HDMI and DisplayPort carry audio in addition to video.

Furthermore, DVI and DisplayPort (not sure about HDMI on laptops) can be converted to VGA very easily, only requiring a small dongle.

VGA is slowly going the way of the buffalo as well.

I was really hoping the T400 would have DisplayPort too, but I guess that it the trade off for having a business class notebook. In the end though it doesn't matter much to me, I can always stream media through my ps3 ;)

    Thanks everyone for your expertise!
