I have a T400 with a Hybrid 3870 graphics chip, p8600, led screen, and 9nine cell battery for the record.
I cannot seem to get my ATI card to install properly. I use drivers from Lenovo's Website. I get this error in device manager.
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
However the Intel graphics graphics card runs just fine. I should note that when I got the notebook with Lenovo's stock Windows install I was unable to switch between graphics modes (integrated to discrete).
Another problem, and I think it may have to do with the graphics problem is that when I unplug I only get 2:30 hours with my screen down all the way and power settings down to Maximuim Battery.
I'm absolutely stumped any help would be apreciated.

The one on Lenovo's site looks like Catalyst 8.5, you could probably try some newer drivers instead.

without drivers it is like this - see how to install drivers, there is a thread on how to install switchable drivers - this will solve all you problems with T400

Can you walk me through the category, when I go to Mobile Radeon the maximuim it goes up to is X1800.
I forgot to mention when I try to switch to the ATI card in the Lenovo Battery Management program or whatever it says I have 3d programs open and I need to close them. I've tried closing everything but Im not having any luck.
Edit: CkoTuHa I'm fairly sure installed the ATI driver I checked the log and everything was sucessful but can I get a link to that thread please? Thanks! -
elementary question, but did you try selecting the ati card from the bios, disabling the os switching in bios, and then installing the drivers?

I found that article and I'm reading that I need to have service pack 1. So there is the graphics problem fixed, I think. I'm on slow internet so it will be awhile before I get it downloaded.
There still is, however, the problem with the battery life? Anyone think the problem is related?
