I am not sure is this a general problem of 64bit edition, but it bothers me alot. It freeze almost 7 of 10 times when I try to install a new software or an update from microsoft. Dose anyone experience simular problem?

    How about otherwise?
Does it freeze when say, you type something up in MS Word for 3 hours?

Which machine are you using? Start by making sure all drivers are up to date and that you have Vista totally up to date including and especially the bios. Then I would stop any programs from running that aren't essential. You can do this in msconfig. If this doesn't solve the problem then I'd make sure that you run a ram test using mem86 or MS's own program. It could be hardware related. If you have a spare HD try pulling the drive out and doing a clean install of Vista on spare drive to see if you still have the problem. Some people like to jump in and do a clean install, which is an option if you don't have a lot of stuff. If your machine is locking up during internet downloads it suggests that maybe you might have a problem with the network card. Try updating those drivers first. Try connecting with wifi if it's the lan, or visa versa.

    Hi,

does your freezing happen especially, when you move the notebook?

Mine does this from time to time (which I hate) - mostly when going by train or carrying the running machine.
Setting the shock detection sensitivity to low helped me decreasing the "freeze rate".

BTW: If there is anyone who knows how to solve this problem ... ;)

what power scheme are you running?
does your computer recover from the freeze, or just remain that way indefinitely?
is the hdd light a solid green, or is it flickering?

    Hi,

my notebook stays that way indefinitely (I let it run about 30 minutes after freezing and nothing happened). During that time the HDD-LED is not lighting up. I used the "power optimized" scheme.

The occurrences I worked on the machine when it froze I noticed that it happens after a new program is started or a running program needs something from the disk.

    Greetz!
