Can I do a clean install of Vista Ultimate on a T400 and keep the Rescue and Recovery partition working?

I ordered my T400 with Vista basic and an 80 gig hard drive. I bought Vista Ultimate and a 500 gig hard drive recently and want to do a clean install and keep the functionality of the rescue and recovery partition at startup. I'm keeping the original 80 gig hd factory fresh for the time being.

You can also burn the recovery media onto DVDs, which serve the same purpose as the recovery partition.
