    Hi,
    I'm considering buying a Thikpad T400; I have pretty much figured out the hardware I need; I am just dubious about which display to order; I am choosing between WXGA LED(1280/800) or the WXGA+ (1440/900 ) CCFL ones. My eyes are far from their best days and I have noticed that I generally feel more comfortable with smaller resolution displays. Leaving aside the advantages and the disadvantages of different resolutions, is the $30 more expensive one WSXGA+ better in anything (colors; contrast; viewing angels; lower number of faulty displays or anything else that needs to be considered); i see that some people are complaining about the quality of their LED displays. Thank you for your opinion!

    Backlight technology is distinct from the quality of the monitor - LED only offers a brighter more power-saving display, and not necessarily more accurate colors.

    If you prefer larger text, I would suggest the WXGA LED display, because it will give you better battery life and better outdoor viewability. If those do not matter to you, though, CCFL would be fine.

    Since your vision is like mine, stick with the WXGA LED.

    Some people are more sensitive to LED's than others. just check a LED backlight display before you buy one.

    if you prefer the bigger screen realestate, get the WXGA+

    I would go into a store and see the resolutions as both should be common enough. That will give you a more reassuring assessment.

    The two places I like more resolution are Firefox and Office, but it's easy to make text smaller in both, which fits more stuff on the screen. Kind of like having a higher resolution screen.

    Next time you guys should try reading the OP.

    I don't know about any of those factors myself, but I recently ordered a T400 with the WXGA+ CCFL and I'll soon see if it's any good.

    When it comes to screen resolutions (and other things), I’m a fan of go big (high resolution) or go home. Then again, if your eye sight is waning a bit, the smaller resolutions might be better for you. However, Vista is the first Windows operating system to employ vector scaling, so you might be able to get the best of both worlds—high resolution, more screen real estate and the ability to make text and such larger, to ease readability, without having everything look like crap.

    Thank you guys for your opinions!
    I think that I will get the LED WXGA one; it is true that the font sizes are adjustable but there are some programes (like ''skype'' for example) that I just can't make any bigger and the size of the messages is just killing my eyes; all I do now is increasing the DPI of my 15,4 WXGA (1280/800) display from 90 to 120; which has some disadvantages also;

    don't mean to steal this thread but if i were to connect it to an external 21" wide screen monitor, this screen resolution will not effect the one of the external monitor right?

    No, that is going to be limited by what the video adapter can output to, plus the native resolution of the external monitor.
