This is probably a silly question, but when I go into "Access Connections" for settings on my T400's "WiFi Link 5300 AGN" card, there is no option to connect with 802.11n - just 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g.

Is 802.11n considered a superset of 802.11g as far as Access Connections is concerned? Or shouldn't it show an option for that protocol?

I've attached a JPG of the settings in the driver panel. Note it doesn't mention 802.11n on that panel (it's not in any of the dropdown selections if you scroll up, either).

There *is* an "802.11n mode" panel, which has a checkbox "Default value" and an "Enabled/Disabled" dropdown. However, if I uncheck "Default value" and use "Enabled", and then close the panel, when I open it again, the checkbox is once again checked and the dropdown greyed out.

Anybody know about these settings, and if N is enabled or not, and why I can't seem to enable it?

    *bump*

Anyone? Has anybody used 802.11n via the 5300?

Hmm... 802.11n is definitely not a subset of 802.11g. Maybe check for a driver update on Intel's site?

Yeah, that WAS a surprise, huh? I was thinking of getting a W500, and that was part of my decision making process; in the end I got the T400, and it has in it what it says it has, video-wise.

This *is* the WiFi Link 5300... but ****ed if I can find anywhere where it seems to let you use 802.11n!

    *cackles bitterly*

802.11n is enabled by default. You seem to be unable to select N only. I really don't know why this is. My best guess is that 'N' doesn't suffer any compatibility problems if you leave the ABG enabled, while 802.11B may have problems. There is the same limitation in the Thinkvantage tool, you can select all, or G only, or B only, however, N only is not an option. I wouldn't worry about it though.

    Hey there...

In "Access Connections" I don't see "N" mentioned *at all*. Not "N Only" but ANY mention of "N". I see only A, B and G.

Do you see "N" mentioned in Access Connections at all?

How bizarre! The '****'-ed out area above was the very mildest of curses; why are they so cautious here?

I'm using my 5300 on an N network right now, works completely fine for me. I don't use Access Connections though.

    Is it an N-only network?
