    Hello all!

I am new to the notebookreview forums and I have to honestly say, I joined because I needed help with a pressing issue.

I recently purchased a Thinkpad T400 laptop with P8600, 2gb ram, ati 3470. Because of my lack of knowledge of laptops(been a desktop user all my life) I jumped straight to reformatting my hard drive and installing windows xp.

Now that I've actually installed XP, I'm facing a couple of pretty serious problems with drivers.

    1. No video driver for the Radeon 3470
    2. No wireless driver for my standard ethernet card (none that I could find)

I am leaving for college in a few weeks and I really need to get this issue sorted out.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

I, too, am having the same problem. The trick for me is that I'm already at college (bummer, right?) Well, I called technical support and the reason for all this nonsense is because our machines our so new that they haven't even had time to register them and place all the appropriate drivers on the support page. Yeah, I know what you're thinking-- isn't it logical to sell a customer a product before support and necessary tools are available?

Anyway, when I called, they asked for information from the purchase so that they could put my warrantee in place and the information should be on the site soon (I hope).

Well, I'm only having the same problem with the ATI driver... the issue with the network adapter can easily be solved. The driver package for XP systems worked for me, you just have to manually install it. Open the device manager in windows and find "network adapters" and then, after you've unzipped the driver package to a location (probably C:\win\drivers\ethernet), you can manually update that driver by right clicking the device and then going to properties, then just choose the option to manually search a location. The installer will be in the ethernet folder (probably under win32).

yeah I'm trying to manually install the bugger, but every time I extract the file, an error pops up and a chain of unknown error messages containing "abort, retry, ignore" shows up as well. whats more annoying is that these messages don't go away for a long time.

Just note that you cannot always simply use a drive from ATI for a laptop. It is not exactly like putting a new graphics card in your desktop and updating the drivers. So just beware if it does not work out. If it does, great :).

I am also having a problem getting the "11b/g wireless lan mini pci express adapter iii" Windows XP drivers to install. I talked with Lenovo's support, and they informed me that SP3 causes problems and that you need to have Access Connections & Hotkeys installed in order for them to work. The unfortunately told me that they do not have any documentation on the T400 and they are unable to assist with this issue. I am going to contact my corporate sales rep at Lenovo to see if I can get a set of the CDs that include the drivers, applications and XP image tomorrow as my t400 did not come with them.

The error that I am getting is the following:

    Code:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

I'm having the exact same problem although I did install both the hotkey and the acess connection drivers... For some reason, my wireless card will not recocnize the driver. I'm sure all of these 3 drivers are properly installed as they do appear in the "install/remove" program thing. One thing tho...is that in the download section of the Lenovo website...where the wireles drivers are listed, the one for the "11b/g wireless lan mini pci express adapter iii" does not list the T400 under supported model...

If someone could help me on this issue, it would be very appreciated, Thanks.

Yeah, I also have this problem with my T400. I installed Windows XP SP3 on my T400 and the "11b/g wireless lan mini pci express adapter iii" still had the red x mark on it although I did install it's driver downloaded from Lenovo's website.
