First, I tried searching for the answer to my question with no luck. I apologize if it's already been addressed and will happily accept flames and a link.

I love this new laptop, and only have one question. Why does the wifi card turn off at random?

I have Vista Ultimate. The 5350 wifi card. A few VM's run on Virtual Box, (only mention this one due to the virtual network connection). I've tried updating the driver to find that I have the latest.

    Any ideas?

Edit: Also, I have the wireless performance set to maximum. I check that to see if it might be a part of the problem.

There must be a setting in your power plan that is turning off the wifi card when idle.

Which Thinkvantage apps, if any, do you currently have installed? Access Connections does have an option set on a default install to turn the wifi off when idle.

Similarly Vista has 3 different power saving settings for the wifi if you change the advanced power plan settings by going: right click desktop -> personalize -> screen saver -> Change power settings -> change plan settings -> change advanced power settings.

    Got this from event viewer:

    WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.

    Module Path: C:\Windows\System32\IWMSSvc.dll

Also, was disconnected when you posted. I'll look into yours and post again.

    MastahRiz-

I think the ThinkVantage thing may have done it. Thank you for your reply. It was getting very annoying. I'll post again if it returns. . . . .

. . . Silly question. Does anyone use any of the ThinkVantage stuff? Rather, is there anything useful in there? I'm pretty sure that I hit that button for the first time just now.

Also, can that button be remapped to do something more useful?

I use the Thinkvantage Active Protection System, Power Manager, and System Update (when I need it), otherwise all the other lenovo apps stay uninstalled on my system.

Access Connections is better at setting up wimax connections for me on the 5350 than Windows so I do install it from time to time, but otherwise I find it completely unnecessary.

The Thinkvantage button can not be remapped unfortunately.

Hope your problem is solved. If not, let us know.

Solved as soon as I found the "shutdown connection when idle" setting you mentioned. Thanks again.

Also, I'll keep an eye in the ThinkV stuff a little while longer.
