I had to place an order for advanced T400 configuration and I was under assumption that I will be able to simply use emailed shopping cart, but as it turned out emailed Lenovo shopping carts can not be ordered.

After order has been placed I figured that somethign went wrong (order indicated invalid configuration). I tried to get in touch with Lenovo Sales / Support team, but they completely mishandled the case and demanded 10% restocking fee  .

I don't want to go into details, but if you like you can read my entire Lenovo T400 Thinkpad story on PissedConsumer: lenovo.pissedconsumer.com/lenovo-15-restocking-fee-on-wrong-notebook-20081019140035.html

I am now trying to decide if I should simply return T400, pay 10% restocking and order Dell Latitude E6400. What do people on this board think about Dell's Terms and Customer Service? Are they any better then Lenovo's?

Hate to say it, but every company has a few bad representatives working for them. Doesn't matter who, but there will always be a bad apple or two in a large call center :/

Choice is up to you, do you like the T400? Is it worth keeping? Would you rather have a dell anyway? I really think it is a decision you have to make.

hm that sounds really weird. i would think that if you haven't opened it yet, that you should be able to get a full refund (possibly minus shipping). anyways, one thing i've heard about is that you will be able to get a refund if you exchange it for another laptop, especially one that costs more than the model you bought. i'd say to try and suggest that.. maybe if you get a more sympathetic rep, you'll be okay there, esp since you want a model with discrete graphics (and will therefore cost more).

for what it's worth i was considering the e6400 vs the t400 too and i went with the t400..and have not been disappointed. it's a great computer. quite a shame that there are so many negative stories on this forum about the customer service though =(
