Is anyone using Ubuntu 9 on their T400? Or T500/W500? I'm considering dual-booting with Vista on my T400, and I've got a couple of questions:

    - How's the battery life?
    - Have you set up battery thresholds?
    - How's the wireless reception? I've got the 5300, but any input would be welcome.
    - What about Active Protection? Do you miss it/are you using some alternative program that I should know about?
    - I know you can't switch between Intel and ATI graphics in X, but are both cards working properly for you after you switch between them in the BIOS?
    - Is there anything else that stands out? Please post any additional thoughts!

    Thanks for your help!

    Isaac

    I haven't run 9.04 on a T400, but I have used 8.10 on an x200.

    - Battery life under Ubuntu is worse. Consumption tends to be 3-4 watts higher, resulting in about 25% less battery life.

    - You can set battery thresholds in Windows and Ubuntu will respect them. However, you can NOT change thresholds within Ubuntu.

    - Wireless reception under Ubuntu with the 5100 was the same as under Windows.

    - It is possible to get APS to work in Linux, but it requires some work. I now have an SSD so I don't care about it.

    - The Intel x4500 GPU worked fine in Ubuntu for me.

If you want Access Protection, you got to hope your kernel supports it (most distributions do not). Otherwise, you have to patch the kernel yourself to get Access Protection.

The touchpad driver is goofy. I couldn't get scrolling to work to work on the pointstick. The touchpad works fine.
