I recieved my new t400 with vista ultimate installed. I boot up the computer after unpacking, and windows starts an update 3/3. It completes the first two then reboots, and installs the third update to only give a black screen.

A box pops up telling me that windows could not complete the installation.

I call lenovo and the loser tech runs me through the vantage button and the f11. we get a menu that says admin has been locked. I then reboot and f11 again now i get just black screen with same old message of windows not completing install.

What the hell do I do? Tech said he would send me vista back-up disk but will take tell next week.

I have xp disk that came with my t400 should I install?

Sorry for all the noob ?s. i am not very good with computers.

try booting into safe mode (press f8 while computer is starting up). then you can either try the "last known working configuration," or system restore. to use system restore, go to start, type in restore in the search box, select system restore. restore the computer to a point before messing around with the updates if possible... word.

This was the first time I fired up the computer. It went into updates without me doing anything. I have got to the main screen a few times where user is to log on.
