I've read that with a 6 cell on the t400 you can get up to 6 hours. As of right now i turned my setting to "maximum battery life" and turned brightness down to 60%. I also switched graphics to integrated however i'm only getting about 4 hours of juice.... Is there something else I have to do in the power manager?

also on a side note, Is there anyway to check what kind of LED display i have becuase I dont think my display is any different from my 2 year old HP display... its slightly better but not 100 dollar better

tens of threads on each of the two questions you posed

Though I understand your frustration, I must point out that I also have been reminded in several different forums like this one that the help I get is out of the goodwill of the other members and not a service I have a right to demand.

That said, I did not post the answers because I don't know them off the top of my head and would have to make the same search that I suggested you do. I just remember that there are those threads out there.

battery life is an art and a science. there are many ways to get more battery life. over and above what you have done, you could eject your cd drive. this saves a bit. turn off any devices you are not using. i disable my camera, fingerprint reader, anything i don't use all the time in bios. turn off radios you are not using (wireless, bluetooth).

also, there are things you can do on the software end. disabling unneeded services that use the hard disk are options as well. indexing comes to mind.

i have found that using the power manager to watch my battery drain has been very useful in finding out what really saves some juice. i just look at the wattage, and try to get it down as much as possible. about 8-10 watts is pretty decent for me. i would shoot for that.

why don't you let us know about how many watts you are using while on battery?

8-10 wats idle minimum? I've tried but for mine i think it's impossible to get that under load, even having FireFox open i'd have to practically stay on one page fo 2 minutes to get back down to 8-10 watts. can you state your min to max wattage under max power saving settings

yeah. 8-10 idle minimum. not load. when i'm just surfing the net, my wattage is about 8-10 80% of the time (8 out of 15 bars of brightness, about 60%). it spikes up once in awhile to 12 or so when busy, and goes even higher at times when i eject my ultrabay hard drive... it even creeps below 8 some of the time, but for the most part- it's between 8-10 watts.

Oh thanks i thought i was missing something.. Yeah using the latest FireFox it jumps to about 13-14 watts and never stays there; I could easily get 7 hrs out of a 9-Cell. It should be more, but i do a lot of research and can never stay on one page for too long.
