Has anyone bought the T400 with a T9400 (or similar) processor with a 4 or 6 cell battery? What kind of battery life do you see with this configuration?

I wonder why Lenovo isn't offering the high-end P-series processsors? The 2.53GHz P9500 was introduced simultaneously with the 2.53GHz T9400, but I don't recall seeing it available on any ThinkPads.

The 2.53GHz P8700 (same as P9500, but with 3mb L2 cache vs. 6mb) and the 2.67GHz P9600 were released in 12/08. I haven't seen either of those offered either.

The P8700 was offered (albeit mistakenly) on the T400 and T500 for a week or two. I snatched a T500 then, and luckily, Lenovo honored my order, although I know some people were notified of a canceled order.

I too wonder why Lenovo doesn't offer it as an option - they offer the P8700 in some Ideapads, so why not extend it to the Thinkpad family?

Not offering the P8700 because they still have T9400s and P9500s to sell first. Many buyers wouldn't pay $50-$75 more for 3mb more L2 cache memory (6mb vs. 3mb) if they were given the choice. Dell was selling the latest models while phasing out the existing ones- T9400/T9550, P9500/P9600 and T9600/T9800 at the same prices. The choices now are P8400, P8600, P8700, T9550, P9600 and T9800.

The P8700 looks like the "sweet spot" in the lineup from a performance/value standpoint (much like the T8300 was in the original Penryn release).

Ideally, it's the p9600 processor (2.66 GHz/6MB Cache) that I wish was offered! It would be the ideal processor for this laptop. I read somewhere that the P9600 is or will be offerred with the T400 in Japan.
