Have the T400 owners experienced battery life as good as what the following review claims?
(Also interested in comparison of battery life to T61; can anyone confirm the T400 is much better? Seems to be when comparing with notebookreview.com on T61.)
From notebookreview.com on T400:

nope........

If not, I'm wondering why I don't try to find a T61 with a bright display (for my outdoor/sunlight viewing), same a few bucks (they'll be cheaper), and also get what seems to be a much thinner laptop (T400 vs T61--size/depth pretty important to me)...? -
At first glance, looks like T61 screen/display brightness may be problematic, and folks generally prefer the T400 as per: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/287705-im-fence-t61-vs-t400.html

the performance on the P8xxx, T9xxx CPU (you can also get P9xxx, but they are quite rare) are much better than the T61 with the T7xxx CPU, and runs much cooler too.
If you are from USA, just head to the outlet.lenovo.com to get a cheap T400.
Also, the T400 with the ATI3470 can switch between the discrete and the integrated (intel) battery.
Even the integrated intel 4500 MHD can support native decoding of 1920 x 1080 movies, without using the precious CPU processing power.
The T61 use quite a bit of the CPU power if you watch the blu-ray quality movies. If you can get the T61 with the T8xxx or the T9xxx Penryn cpu, then the cpu load would slightly decrease.

Regarding the screen brightness, the T400 can be optioned with the LED backlight, which is brighter and the backlight life lasts longer (100,000 hrs versus 20,000 hrs). -
Great feedback as usual, lead_org.
fwiw, I'm now focused on looking for "tall" Thinkpad displays, namely 15", 4:3, 1600x1200/UXGA T60/T61's; after looking at the widescreens of the T410 variety, I don't think they'll work for me, unless I can't handle the step-down in battery life of the T6x vs the T4x0. After staring at some T410/W510 widescreens for a while, I'm finding widescreens just don't do it for me, at least not yet. I should also ask: is there anything "taller" than the 15", 4:3, 1600x1200/UXGA T60(p) or T61(p) Flexview in the Thinkpad line (even if it's an OLD model)?

There is no T61 with 1600x1200 LCD. The T61 only had the 14.1 inch 4:3 LCD with maximum of SXGA+.
T60p does run a bit bit hotter due to the FireGL and some T7xxx option. Battery life is also not going to be anything spectacular even on the 9 cells.
--------
The T400 with the P8xxx CPU's battery life is longer than a T61 with T7xxx CPU.
T400 battery life: good as reviewed? (and compared to T61?)
