I got what my best guess would lead me to believe was a deformed palm rest because I can just lift the bottom right corner of it right off a little less thn a quarter inch with the screws still on. is this the norm now or is mine defective?
also anyone here have a similar situation and a palm rest swap fix it? i'm just trying to do what I can to keep this cuz if it has to go back I will not give lenovo a third chance. i STILL havent gotten a refnud for the system I returned that they RECEIVED BACK 22 days ago.
EDIT: i tried removing and reseating the palmrest piece but no go. evn removed the hard drive cover incase thar would help figure out whats defective not still no go. the inside of the palmrest doesnt show anything that looke like a broken clip or anything.

I have the exact same problem. I also have this problem around the thinkvantage button. Come to think of it, my whole right side has this problem (around the right speaker). This is probably normal, since i have since posts about this on here...

as an update i decided to perform ghetto surgery on my touchpad. i stuck a small piece of foam under the plastic "catch" thats on the problem corner of the palmrest. while it did not completely eliminate it, it reduced it enough where i honestly feel like i am ALMOST typing on a $1200 machine again. someday later when i upgrade the ram ill stick a second piece on andit should do the trick. its a shamei don't think its too much to ask that a $1200 lappy come built in one piece is it? i am not asking for a tank just something that would require UNassembly to remve a piece lol. my brother has a $519 dell vostro 14 SCRATCH AND DENT from dells outlet and it came in one piece and problem free 7 months running. why cant a thinkpad?

I have similar problems at the corner of the right palm rest...

the left corner of my T400 palmrest above the card slot, where it meets the keyboard is almost always lifted by a mm or so, the culprit being the dummy insert in the slot. crappy build #1.
the chasis is warped about where the ThinkVantage button is. goes down around the button, then lifts up about where the screen ribbon connector is, then slightly down around the power button. seemsl like heat damage, since I noticed it a week after the unit came. crappy build #2. -
I re-installed the palm rest and it's better now.

what did you do exactly bayernjuven?

I have the same issue with the right palmrest; the top part of the palm rest can separate from the bottom. Has anyone called Lenovo about this? It's really annoying...

Seems like poor quality control: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrerGDrMYlE

i have the exact same problem, but it was like this for me straight outta the factory.
I send it in for an LCD repair which was something completly different (it had bright spots) and i put a sticky note to the area near the thinkvantage button stating that this is abnormally bent up
when i got it back the bent was kinda lowered, the way you fix this is you really push your keyboard to the top of its tray and then tighten the screws really hard.
And also i can take the bottom right corner and make a gap.
To me it seems like its also partially the hdd bay cover's fault, as it twists as it only has one screw...
I'd love to know if every T400 has a loose bottom right palmrest or if it only affects a little percentage of people..
maybe if they send out a replacement palmrest its one with a fixture that attaches to the chassis the way it was meant to be in the first place.. -
T400 bottom palmrest loose for anyone but me?
