How is the build quality on this? Will this last forever? My hp started getting problems a little over 1 year. My friends who bought the dell e1505 for college over 2 years ago have no problems with it. theyre sturdy and seem like they never break down. I was wondering if the t400 is similar because I need to save money and I just want to buy a computer to last me for a while..

The T400 is a great notebook overall, and build quality is a place I think it excels in. Some might complain that the quality of thinkpads have dropped recently, but I say it is still light years better than most. Some of the old Dell's had great build quality, but recently, that has gone out of the window. Do put an effort into keeping your T400 safe and it will last you a long time. Cheers...

srunni....good to see a familar handle from the linux forum...I'm thinking of ordering one also as I need a second laptop for work and play. Kinda waiting on the refreshed U6V Asus to come out whenever as I'm in no hurry...but if I see a great deal or coupon on the T400, I'll go for it.

I think the build quality is quiet good. For being how much cheaper they are now versus when IBM built them it amazing how well they are still built. I think the magnesium roll-cage lenovo put in beginning with the T60 was a huge step forward and makes the thinkpads feel like rocks.

I am currently using a 3½ years old IBM Thinkpad R51 and it still works fine, except it has become significantly slower over time and the battery doesnt really last long either. But otherwise, it is running nicely.

Can I expect the same from the T400? :p

slap an intel ssd into there and it'll be like a super computer

can't do anything about the battery's they all have temporal life spans
