When I plug my T400 to AC parts like the fingerprint reader, and all other part on the T400 which is made of metal get electrified. Thus when I touch these parts with my finger I get a small stun, not a big one luckily... but it gets kinda annoying though when I accidentally though these parts. Is that normal, or is there some fault with my T400?

I would call Lenovo and get this fixed as soon as you can as it sounds like your unit is not properly grounded. Also, try using another power adapter and see what happens. Hopefully there is still warranty.

    the plug is grounded.

So it can be a machine fault? I still have warranty since I bought it this year. I have to wait until I get back home from my trip though...

then i think you would need to send the laptop in for service. This is definitely not normal.

any sort of constant static discharge from laptop to you is not normal, especially if you are using the correct grounded power adapter.

I don't think any US model Thinkpad uses a grounded plug.

Certain rectifier topologies require a ground and others don't. I think the most common are the 2-prong power supplies, which actually have no room for a ground when the hot and neutral lines are connected. These are probably the cheapest to manufacture as I believe in order to fit a ground in, you need an isolation transformer.

It's a cheaper plug, but I imagine to maintain the same level of safety it's probably more expensive (honestly, I have no idea how they do it without their metal cased slim power supply being a hazard). Either way, I'm glad they do, because I'm sure we've all come across an outlet that only has 2 slots at some point in our life (in the US).

i think you can purchase the three pronged plug in USA, but it is more common for the two prong to be shipped with laptop.

OP should call Lenovo warranty support and see whether they can send out a three pronged one out. If not just get one from ebay (make sure you get the real one not the generic knockoffs).

i can't make that determination on whether or not it is the fault of the laptop or the power adapter itself.

you better call lenovo and request warranty service on the laptop (make sure you also send the laptop's power adapter in so it can be tested by the technician).
