I have set indexing to off and set the hard drive to turn off after 10 minutes. Despite that the drive never turns off even if I walk away from the system. The drive light flickers on and off and the disk chirps.

Does anyone know why the hard drive will not turn off and what I need to do.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

Vista need some time to do it´s jobs.

    1. Just let Vista do his job and leave it alone 2 nights or longer.
At the beginning, when your throw your software on it, it will taking longer
to do his tasks. Just be patient.

    2. Or Google for Vista tweaking or try simply a search in this forum and disable
    all unneeded services.

One more suggestion: It will be nearly impossible to get the hdd total silent in modern systems, either XP or Vista. Try it, but it will be frustrating. :(

    Kind regards
