Looking for a little help to a quick question. I tried the search and Lenovo help but still couldn't find the answer.

When your T400 lid is closed and you go to use the latch does it make a clicking noise and release the lid automatically? Because mine does.

I can also open the lid without making the latch click by not extending the latch fully to the right, but it's confusing because I can open the notebook two ways. I just don't want to cause any damage.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Is this some sort of new obsession? I'm not clear what you mean. Can you explain a bit better? The latch will detach if you partly push the detacher to the right. You can just look at the shape of the hole on the wrist rest to see that this must be true. It's only just the tip that hooks underneath the plastic. It shouldn't come open if you click it fully shut on its own. If it's doing that and its under warranty get it serviced.

The only clicking noise mine really makes is when closing it—and the noise is from the latches falling into place. When opening it, I really hear very little.

Thanks for the help, I'll try to clarify somehow.

Push the "detacher" completely to the right when the lid is closed. Does it make a clicking noise and detach so the lid can be opened?

The click is the problem here. I've opened the notebook many time without this clicking noise, but now when I fully extend the "detacher" to the right it make a clicking noise and detaches the lid.

Thanks, that's what I assumed. I guess it's going to be a service call, only a couple month into the purchase.

Does it click when it's not close, that is, when its open and you move the slider all the way to the right? If not then perhaps one of those little prongs got bent?

No, it does not click when the lid is open/disengaged. Very strange as the hooks themselves look fine! The clicking noise only occurs if I really push the latch release all the way to the right.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Sort of disappointed but that's life I guess.

I don’t understand the disappointment. If it locks, who cares if it makes clicky noises or not? When I close my lid, it’s closed and will not open until I depress the latch.

Ya...mine makes a noise if im not holding the lid down when I push the latch to unlock the lid to open it. I don't really care <.<. I'd only care if the hooks broke off and it would not lock properly.

I think you're making this a bigger deal than it is.

Sorry, but this thread is kinda funny.

As long as it locks and unlocks, who cares?

Its just a spring loaded lever. you will know when it breaks cause when the spring fails the whole thing fails. So if its working your good to go.

This is my first laptop EVER! Cut me a little slack guys. I don't think it's a bad thing that I'm a little cautious.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll live with it.
