I have ordered a T400 with 3GB. Why does Lenovo not allow a 4GB configuration with Vista 32? After all people might want to run Linux or upgrade to Vista 64 at some point.
I am thinking of calling and changing the order to either 2GB and adding a stick myself or changing to 4GB if this is possible.
Thanks.

I think they strictly do it for support reasonscause Id consider it shortsightedness.

All you had to do is just pay a bit more and get VISTA BUS 64, they assume that you are not likely to upgrade so might as well max at 3GB since the 32-bit OS can only use up to 3GB

Hmm just wait for DDR3 ram to drop in price then buy from a third party vendor in a few months. I ordered 2GB 1 dimm w/ 32 bit Vista. Should be more than enough for now, and I can upgrade later depending on how much I need.

same here; right now newegg has one-dimm 2GB for $98, so waiting

Lenovo has it for $89.99 CAN.
I basically ordered (2GB 1 dim) for my X200 + 2gb from the accessories section on the website. -

I called during my order for my t400 and told the sales-person that I already own server 2008 64-bit and I would not need to buy the 64 bit os but wanted 4gb memory. He said what I could do is order the laptop with a 2gb 1 dimm DDR module then add his name in the "sales person field". Following this I emailed him and he added a "2 gb DDR3" memory stick as an accessory for the discounted cpp price of about 68 bucks. Works for me
