The T400 has a P processor but the XPS has a T Processor.. but all the rest the XPS owns the T400... im really confused.

When you don't say much about what you need, it's hard to tell you much of anything. Unless you plan on doing CPU intensive stuff, like 24/7, I doubt the CPU difference matters much one way or the other, a little more battery life on the P.

I bought an XPS 1530 about 4 months ago and the Alps touchpad was faulty. The mouse would freeze/stall for a few seconds. The freezing/stalling would occur about once every ten minutes, or so. Very annoying.
I did everything possible to find a cure.
    Reinstalled drivers
    Clean install
Tried about 10 different driver brands/versions.

Returned the unit to Dell under 21 day warranty return.

The replacement unit did the same thing - faulty Alps touchpad.

    Returned that unit too.

I have always been a dell laptop owner but the crappy Alps touchpads made me switch to another brand.

You should also check out the Dell forum about heating issues with the XPS 1530. Some owners are having heating issues.

I would get the T400, the XPS has the faulty 8 series nvidia graphics cards.

As suggested, go to the other subforum (what notebook should I buy) and fill out the FAQ. T400 is newer and better in most aspects except GPU (gaming) and possibly looks (ssubjective).

One great thing about the Dell XPS was the LED glossy screen. It was awesome. I really miss that screen. The T500 LED Mat screen doesn't compete with the Dell.

I’ve used both (granted, the Dell was a friend’s) and you’d have to pay me to use the Dell. IMHO, the two don’t compare, except on paper, perhaps.
