    - how warm does it get on the bottom, cool enough to use on lap for long periods?

The T400 physically looks at lot my the discontinued Z61t ...?

You should be fine for about an hour or two. It gets warm to the touch but never hot. Give the notebook a break every 2 hours so that it has some ventilation under it and you should be good to go again.

I've used it in my lap for more than 2 hours before - and it was still pretty comfortable after that.

it doesn't get hot, but i would say for long periods, you would find any laptop to be annoying in your "lap"

It gets warm after continued use ( like 2 hrs. ) and you can feel the fan blowing warm air on the left.

The T400 runs cool (less hot) than any other laptop I have run into.
I am very impressed, especially coming from hot plates like HP and Dell.

Very impressed with how cool it runs. Playing Wow and UT2004 for hours on end and it only get warm on the center of the bottom. My only other hands on are with HP & Dell Business laptops and it is definatley alot cooler then those.
