I'll be buying a T400 for university, which starts in September. I'm wondering when is the best time to buy it: now or August? Based on previous patterns, are there significant discounts during August. Also, keep in mind that I have to get it before September, including the shipping.

    Thanks.

I would say sooner rather then later as depending on where you live it may take some time to get it delivered. Plan on the maximum build time, shipping and such. I did that and ordered and even with customs issues got the laptop in time for my trip. I know its a 10 day max on building (unless you have a part that delays the order) and I believe the shipping is around 7 business days give or take (again depending on where you live).

Yeah, I'll keep that in mind. But do you know actual sales and coupons that come out during August rather than now in July?

    tornazer,
Lenovo has a 30 day price protection window (21 days after it ships). Maybe you can use that to hedge your bet - place your order a bit early and ensure your order gets filled in time?

Would that also cover e-coupons? Or just retail price?

For example, on the Canadian Lenovo site right now, I can get 20% off a Thinkpad if it's $1499+ with the e-coupon CAPSUMMER4DAY. Since this is the best way to save money, would this be included in the 30 day price protection window?

Anyone? I'd like to know ASAP because I might make the buy.

    Thanks.
