The LED option is 1440 x 900 on the T400.

Can someone tell me if there is 'that' much difference in font size? My last Lenovo Z61 14' notebook had 1280 x 800 it was great.

I'm concerned 1440/900 may be a little or a lot smaller.

No shops in my area carry/display notebooks with 1440/900 resolution.

    Thanks.

Same here. I just wondering if the font size on 14.1" 1440x900 looks bigger than on 15.4" 1680x1050? I had a T60 before the 1680x1050 is too high for me. I feel that the 1440x900 on a 15.4" screen is right resolution for me. How is the different about the 1440x900 T400?

For me the 1440x900 and 14” screen is perfect. My previous notebook was 1280x800 and it was too small—especially because I connect to lots of systems remotely via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and like having RDP sessions in windows versus a full screen. So, again, IMHO, the size and screen are perfect. If things are too small for you, unlike XP, Vista does a good job scaling/making fonts larger if you so require.

I think it is quite readable. I came from a 1440x1050 SXGA+ 14" thinkpad, and my new thinkpad feels about the same size when it comes to reabability. I'll post a picture tomorrow (GF has the camera and is at work atm). I honestly perfer the higher resolution screens. My first laptop was a Dell Inspiron 8200 15" (absolutely a behemoth) and that laptop had a UXGA+ (1600x1200) screen.

not a big difference in font - search for pics in google for different resolutions. You will like the resolution. Get the LED screen...

This was something I went back and forth on myself before I got my T400. I mean I must have read hundreds of things about this, because I like the WXGA (1280) font size on a 14" and find the WXGA+(1440) font size too small. The thing is I wanted the LED backlight, and thought that sometimes I might also like the extra real estate of the higher resolution. I was 95% sure I was going to get the WXGA but at the last minute I changed my mind and got the WXGA+ -- and I'm so glad I did. Like others have said, it is very easy to tweak the settings to increase font size using Vista and firefox. This is a no-brainer, get the WXGA+.

The resolution on the T400 is just right for me. The fonts are clear and readable. You do not need to strain your eyes to read anything unless the size of the font is small to begin with. You will hardly notice the difference between the T400 and say a 15.4" screen.

does not having a HDMI/Display port bother you ... it's not as convenient to plug in a monitor .... I guess the VGA plug works almost as welll ..... wonder if an update (in the near future) will include HDMI like on the T500 ?

I have reduced the resolution under display settings from 1440*900 to 1280*800, but the screen looks blur. So wondering how did you change the resolution?

That is the only way of changing the resolution. Since LCD displays have a set number of pixels on the panel, changing to a non native resolution creates a blur because the system is omitting some pixels, and duplicating others. If you want better readability, try changing the text DPI, it will make it larger.

Personally, I think 14.1" 1440x900 is ideal. It is about the same as 15.4" 1680x1050. I don't notice the difference when working on my T400 and a T61 14" with WXGA resolution simultaneously.

Do not change the resolution, keep the default. In vista, you can try to change the 'DPI' to enlarge the font size.

Font on 15.4" 1680x1050 is too small for me. I hope 14.1" 1440x900 will be a little bit bigger, theoretically, it should be?

Somehow I couldn't find DPI setting w/ATI discrete graphics card. Can someone help me in finding the DPI setting?

if it's the same as 1680/1050 on a 15.4" then than ends my consideration ... I have an old Dell here with 1680/1050 an the font is for sure too small.

maybe a T500 with LED (I'm in Canada so I have that option), at 1440/900 will be better?

the new trend of putting out high res business notebooks resulting in tiny fonts is going to be a short lived fad imo ... I see a LOT of business people through the course of a week ... recently many are sporting shiny new noteobooks, mostly Lattitudes/T61's ... so I check them out and when I notice they have a hi-res screen I ask what they think of the font size, 90% of the time they tell me they liked the resolution/font size (1280/800) on their last laptop far more ...

Even guys who do excel spreadsheets on the go ... yes you can zoom, increase dpi but it's not the same....

I don't know ... first wide screen notebooks for business use, certainly not as good as the old .... now a rush to hi res/tiny font business machines with no *good* option to properly resize the fonts ... I think it's a bit of a joke.

give the people what they want!

I don't think so. I think the problem isn't higher resolutions, it's that the software has poorly integrated font size changes. I think you will see higher resolutions but software that allows you to smoothly alter font sizes for all programs.

Suneel, that's the setting I used to change font sizes (120dpi). In firefox, the No-squint add on is also very nice. You never want to change the native resolution.
