I have a new T400 with speakers that don't work. I can get sound just fine through external speakers or headphones, but the actual speakers in the machine don't do anything.

I am a mobilized Army Reservist deployed to the Middle East, so unless I'm willing to surrender my machine to the military postal system and IBM/Lenovo for at least a month, I have no way to take advantage of warranty repair.

Is there an easy way to check on the hardware? I'm hoping that it is as simple as a cable not attached, or a DIP switch (do they use those anymore?) or jumper set wrong. (By the way, how to you get into this thing to look at the guts?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is not a killer issue, but by the time I get back to the USA my warranty will be expired, so I won't get it fixed unless I do it myself.

Yeah, yeah, I know they are an international company, but the warranty doens't work that way. And anyway, a technician couldn't get into our base anyway, so that's not an option.

Thank you for any suggestions. :)

Right-click the traybar sound icon, playback devices, check if everything is on like it should be?

Yes, everything*says* it's working - headphones work but the actual speakers don't, though.

    Hi to bjfoster,

I got the same notebooke like you did and the same problem occured. My internal speakers are not working, but if I plug in external speakers or headphones everything is fine. All volume settings are fine. Whats wrong? Did you manage to solve your problem?
