Does anybody else hear a squeak if the rotate their T400 display (i have led) back and forth by the top-right corner with one hand?
I hear squeaks and it is annoying me.

    No...

But seriously, a sound from lowering or raising the lid?! I understand the thinkpad has a big reputation, but come on... does your normal operation seriously have you messing with the lid that frequently?

Actually, the thing is i dropped my thinkpad from about 4 ft a few days ago and the corner hit the bottom of my desk which has a bolt sticking out. It made a 1cm cut along the corner on the side of the lid and now there is a small triangle on the corner of the lid near the hinge that is raised. Any idea what to do about it, fix it? And does thinkpad protection cover it?

I haven't heard any squeaks from any of the t400 that I've used. I think it must have been the fall.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade to accidental protection warranty. I believe you can upgrade to that within 30 days of purchase. A Lenovo CS will be able to confirm.

I do have the 1 year thinkpad protection. Is the fall covered under that? And how long would it take to be fixed?

From what I understood after speaking to a Lenovo CS recently, any damage incurred during normal use (including falls, spills, etc.) is covered under the Thinkpad Protection warranty. The time to repair will depend largely on the availability of replacement parts. You may be able to get an estimate if you have an idea of what part(s) need replacing.

The whole plastic lid would need to be replaced, but the lcd is fine. Is the lid replacable?
The laptop currently works fine with the damage. Is it advisable to wait a month and then get it repaired when parts like the LG screen more available?
Would it be helpful if I posted pics?
