i want one for school as well. see if you can borrow a laptop for the first couple weeks, maybe. i'd say it's worth it to wait a couple a weeks to get the extra tech.

Its been available twice, in a small window sometime between 12 and 5am the past two nights, and have been the only new thinkpads to include full prices. So odds are just stay up late and they'll reappear, and hopefully you'll be able to purchase.

yeah, i noticed that too....last night I was looking at the T400 on lenovo's Canadian website (which i think had some typos, e.g. an upgrade to the LED screen SUBTRACTED 200 from price), but when I went to check it again this morning, it was gone.

BTW, are there any visual differences between the T400 and the T61?

If not, is the only difference the bump up to Montevina?

I chatted with a rep yesterday who said that they would be released later in the week.

The case looks slightly different, and there are grey bars on the touchpad. But not much aesthetically has changed.

guys, the biggest different is that the the t400 is widescreen

Hopefully the visaperks + coupons work with the new models.. If not its hard to see how we can justify the price increase esp when it still comes with only 1 gig of ram  and wxga resolution..

I mean for the price of a t400 you can get a loaded t61.. but the discrete graphic card with the t61(Nvidia) has issues :(

Really? I didn't think the standard screen has been available for a while now on the T61. You can't buy it at the moment at least, they are all widescreen models.

Correct. The widescreen t61 has been the main model for a while. I have not seen the 4:3 aspect ratio model offered for quite a while as a CTO from Lenovo.

The new T400 on the US site costs several hundred dollars more for a similar (or lesser) configuration. The DDR3 prices are a big factor at the moment. Stick with the T61 if you need a laptop soon, the video cards are fine - you can't game much on the NVS line anyways. Don't forget build time and shipping time - estimate at least 2-4 weeks.

NVIDIA is not still shipping defective cards, I read somewhere else that anything since February has been updated and defect-free. Also, I don't think Thinkpads have had the same problems with the NVIDIA cards like HP and Dell have.

I wouldn't worry about buying one if thats what you want.

It has DDR2 instead of DDR3 and has no GPU option.

 Yeah, I was gonna post about that non-sense with DDR2. Maybe they just screwed up with the website, again?! Anyway, I'm gonna hold off a month or two before pulling the trigger, the time for them to get their act together. Or maybe by then, I'll get a Dell E series instead. Lenovo's lost...

Isn't "AMD M86M Hybrid 256MB" discreet graphics? When you click the T500, the website offers you two choices of T500:

ThinkPad T500 15.4" widescreen with integrated graphics
    or
ThinkPad T500 15.4" widescreen with discrete graphics

Discrete options have been added to the Lenovo Canada site this morning, but it is still listing RAM as DDR2.
