You can choose - 1 DIMM costs more.

like me. I don't know why eBayer list them as a kit 2x2, not only one DIMM. On newegg, so many brand name. It's difficult to choose.

if you order through newegg the brands I recommend are:

gskill (no rebates/cheap and they make great ram)
    corsair
    crucial
ocz (they usually require rebates to be as cheap as the others)

Yes, I agree with vert, usually those brands are a safe-upgrade to your Thinkpad. I got a 2x2GB G-skill kit for like 45 at eBay and have been using those without freezes or BSOD's, cheaper to upgrade aftermarket, recommended to buy only 1GB of RAM and upgrade to 4GB kit later.

All you need to look for is DDR3 PC3 8500 1066MHz SODIMM RAM.

The brands that I tend to "trust" the most are Corsair, OCZ, Kingston, and Crucial. As long as they have a lifetime warranty (which most do), though, it shouldn't matter too much.
