Hi, title says it all. My sister's T400 was stolen out of her car today. Are there any preinstalled tracking/lockdown mechanisms in Thinkpads? I'd assume no for most other notebooks but with Thinkpads' enterprise usage I'm hoping there's something.

    Thanks

I don't think they is any tracking mechanisms that Thinkpad have. I know they is few ways to track your laptop but that isn't something I know as of now. Sorry for your sis for the stolen ThinkPad.
Next time, when you do get a new laptop, I would recommend Prey software
Open source anti-theft solution for your laptop, phone and tablet – Prey. This is an open source anti-theft system which you can install into the computer, basically tracking your laptop if it's stolen.

Yes, but unless you pay for Computrace (and have activated it), you're SOL.

    Sorry.

    Nope.

In theory you could report the IMEI for the WWAN card as stolen and hope that the carriers would notify the police with any information about any device which might talk to their towers. In realty... the mobile carriers? Helping one of us little people? BWAHAHAHAHA.
