Depends on what you're using it for. Do you really need the P8800 processor?
-
I just ordered the T400 with 1280x800 Matte & LED, I'm not to impressed with it overall.
Not sure of the screen you have, just something to think about maybe getting the 1440x900 one. -

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) [add $50.00] [Lenovo recommended] I just added it because it's waht they recommended and it was only 50 bucks more.
Cloneman, I did spec the 1440...

Hmm...are you in a rush to get it? Why not wait a week and see if you can get it with Windows 7 preloaded? If you want Windows 7 that is.
-
What Lenovo "recommends" is not necessarily the best choice for everyone
Unless you are running some CPU-intensive and CPU-bottlenecked tasks such as video conversion or certain calculation programs, I would advise that you stick with the base CPU - you will not notice any difference, except in your wallet.
-
I'm not in a hurry, although I do notice that this site is listing 15% off T400's and that coupon code sure is nice. Big savings. I will go down the base cpu and wait for Window's 7 preloaded. It's supposed to be available in a week?
-
On a more serious note, i would either get T9600 or just stick with P8400....
Because the performance difference between T8xxx series are too small, to be of any benefit to you. -
P8800 not necessary
aftermarket HDD upgrade would be much cheaper
aftermarket memory upgrade would be much cheaper
I myself wouldnt need discreet graphics (Intel integrated far exceeded my expecations)
5300 doesnt give much edge over the others
All my thoughts look towards less overall cost, if you dont care about cost this looks like an awesome machine -

Okay guys, it looks like Lenovo allows you to order preloaded Windows7 Thinkpads over the phone. I'm about to make a call but need to know I'm on the right track here.
First, is this the best deal right now as far as coupon codes or is there another way to get a bigger discount? USPGETMORE 15% off.
Second, anything I need to change on this order? Anything not look right?
Third, should I add the three year warranty for an extra 119 bucks?
here's my configuration as it stands now....

Do you need Vista/7 Ultimate? For the vast majority of home users the "Home Premium" edition should be more than adequate. Get Pro if you need to join a domain or use "XP Mode" and get Ultimate if you ned to run your OS in a different language (or use bitlocker). Otherwise, Home Premium is definitely good enough.
Other than that, your build looks fine. -

extra warranty is always good.

My six cents worth are:
1) get 2x@2Gb ram from the start [add $30.00 over 3GB]. that should do it for good. Even with 32bit, one notices the difference over of 4GB over 3GB.
2) With 4GB ram, go to Vista Business 64 if you have to (with free upgrade to Win7 Pro 64). But, better still, have Win7 Pro pre-installed, even if that means getting the system a few days later.
3) only have 9cell battery if you are on the move away from the mains a lot. otherwise go for the smaller 6cell. [$20.00]
4) warranty can be upgraded after purchase, if not sure. but one-ear on-site service is only $39.00 more than back-to-depot. worth far more than that if you ever need it! you don't have any time without your laptop. can be extended to further years, before expiry runs out.
5) only have bluetooth if you have a specific need of it [$20.00]
6) ditto, fingerprint reader [$20.00]
7) ditto, dedicated gpu. for most business software, integrated is just fine. if not sure, keep dedicated, and switch between gpu's as needed (works great!).
8) if you need extra cpu grunt occasionally, go for T9600 (2.8GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2) [add $120.00]
T400 that I'm about to order, what do you think of specs?
