I recently bought a T400 with WXGA+ CCFL display and a E6400 with WXGA+ LED Display(Dell Outlet) hoping to keep one. As luck would have it I love the old-school T400 looks more than the E6400's modern look. Except the LED display on the E6400 is better than the T400's CCFL. I am now seriously contemplating getting a T400 with a WXGA+ LED Display.

Has anyone compared the LED WXGA+ of the E6400 and T400. They should be similiar. Right? I realize LG vs Samsung luck of the draw might have a small variance but am not worried since I have a Samsung on the E6400 and am very happy.

It seems hard to tell the quality of screen you're going to get on a ThinkPad. I was deciding between an E6400/6500 and a T400/500. The reviews that I read, both editorial and customer, favored the ThinkPad, and the customer reviews at Dell were often less-than-encouraging on the E6400/6500's. Even if the Dell were to have a better screen, I decided that I would rather have a ThinkPad for day-to-day use.

That said, I also decided that I would prefer an LED screen to a CCFL. My screens have always been CCFL, and they dim over the years. My understanding is that the LED's will not. Some say that the contrast is better with CCFL, and that may be. However, watching movies and such is a minor consideration with my usage. Sometimes I want to work outside in the shade, and the LED will be better for that. Also, I typically use mine in an office with florescent lights, and the brighter LED screen will hopefully provide for less eyestrain.

That's a long and roundabout way of saying that my research favors the ThinkPads over the E6400/6500's and, for me at least, LED over CCFL.

    Regards,
    Bill

I have used the E6400 of my mate, it doesn't seem to be any better than my T400 in terms of LCD.
