I plan to do a clean wipe as soon as I get my T400. XP Pro is the plan but I was wondering if anyone has had any problems getting XP on these new machines? Do the discreet/switchable graphics work ok under XP? Any hard to find drivers?

I am wondering the same thing, my machine should be here this week or early next week. I got it with vista business 64 and XP downgrade but I plan on using XP since I only have 1GB of ram. I've been hearing mixed things about the drivers and having everything working properly. Anyone know?

I also got vista business with the XP downgrade. It comes with the ATI drivers installed. The appropriate ati drivers (along with most of the other drivers) are located in the SWTOOLS folder, I think.. I don't have my laptop in front of me right now. Some of the other drivers are actually located in a different folder on my T400.

When I switched to the integrated graphics in the BIOS, My computer did not have the intel integrated drivers installed for XP. The drivers, however, were in drivers folder (Not the SWTOOLS, but the other folder that contains driver installation files) on my computer so I installed it and it worked. I just switch between integrated and discrete on boot up and XP seems to handle it just fine.

I also tried to see if I could switch graphics after hibernation (it lets you go into the bios) but XP just crashed so I don't think its possible.

I haven't performed a clean install of XP, but I think if you made a copy of all the drivers it would be fairly easy to do so.

That doesn't seem like its working right if you have to restart everytime you switch and that it crashes when you switch after hibernation lol.
That actually sounds like a big problem

Actually its not a big problem. Thats how it works. You CANNOT switch graphics on the fly in XP, it requires a reboot and a manual change in the BIOS. The switchable graphics is only available in Vista, and will probably never be available for XP.

As far as going into hibernation, switching graphics, and then having it crash... thats probably also normal. Going into hibernation simply stores the current state of the computer on the HD. If you switch graphics in the bios. and then try to resume the state, it can no longer find the original display device and causes the system to crash. It's actually reasonable that it crashes.

I guess i'll be running Vista business 64 with 1Gb of ram than. Having it switch on the fly is very important for me, its one of the main reasons why I got the switchable graphics
