    Hi everyone,

If anyone can help me. I have a 64 bit MS on my T400 and i want to downgrade it to a 32-bit. I wanted to use SAS 9 which is not compatible with my machine.

What should I do? If I downgrade, will I still be able to get back on my 64bit if i wanted?

I also have all my files in my machine and how do i back them up? would I be able to use the thinkvantage for this?

    Thank you!

Yes, you can downgrade. Here is what you do....

1.) You need to acquire 32 bit Vista media. You need to buy/borrow/find a retail, OEM or Anytime upgrade Vista disc. You don't have to get a Vista Business disc specifically. Any Vista disc of the type mentioned above will do, but make sure it is a 32 bit disc. Recovery discs will not work

2.) Backup your data on your machine. I used backed all my stuff up to a flash drive.

3.) Follow Stallen's Guide carefully and throughly. Though it is meant for the T61 machines, I think you will find the info mostly pretenant to the T400 as well. Things like Drivers might be different than the T61 though, but should be available on the Lenovo site.

4.) Your Key that came with Vista Business 64 also works with Vista Business 32. Just make sure you use the OEM key that comes with the machine. Make sure to read about that in Stallen's guide where Orev's ABR utility is specifically mentioned.

5.) Make sure to make your recovery disc for you current 64 bit install on your machine. To go back to 64 bit you will need to reinstall again using the same procedures. You can use your recovery discs to go back to the factory 64 bit install you have on your machine or you can get 64 bit Vista media and do a clean install, like you will need to do to go 32 bit.

Hope that helps. If you have questions as and I will try to answer the best I can.
