I am almost decided to order a T400 from Thinkpad Canadad (currently 15% Off T models, tell me if I should wait for a bigger discount). I am wondering if I should go with the 6 cell or 9 cell. It's only $20 difference and the 9 cell seems like the better choice since I will be using it all day including taking it to lectures. The question is, how much of an extra bulk is there?

Can anyone please post pictures of the T400 with the 6 cell and 9 cell battery?

Also, just to mention, I love it how Thinkpad 6 and 9 cell batteries are tilted upwards at 45 degrees and sticking out (making the laptop still flat). I hated the HP/Compaq laptops where the whole laptop ends up tilting up at the back.

I would recommend going with the 6-cell as the 9-cell really throws off the CG. You can get about 5.5-6 hours out of the 6-cell w/ the right power settings.

I've got the T400 with the 9-cell and it doesn't bother me at all heft-wise. I generally keep it between 25%-55%, only charging it to 80% or so when I know I'll be using it all day.

How do I use this? Also I am in Canada and the normal Canadian site has a 15% off rite now on T series. Will I still save more with that?

you can always compare both but like i said, click on the link and type in familyandfriends then you apply the coupon at the checkout, you should see in the somewhere in the upper right hand side it'll say "apply coupon." then compare prices but my guess it'll be a little bit cheaper.

No problem alphakenny1. Thank you for trying to help, I appreciate it. I think I might wait for next week's sale because right now Canada only offers 15% and at first I was going to go ahead with it. But people are saying that there are at times way better coupons than 15% so ya.

Just out of curiousity, I am using the DV3 for now until I get the T400. It's got a AMD Turion x2 Ultra 64 RM-72 with 4 gigs. I probably won't notice any difference in performance with the T400 that I am getting right? (P8600 2.4ghz, 4 gigs ram etc.). Will I like the T400 A LOT more over my HP DV3? The HP DV3 seems like a pretty good laptop so far in terms of build quality, fit/finish, etc.

i'm sure many other thinkpadders agree that the thinkpad will have much better battery life (9 cell lasts at least 7 hours), better keyboard, it'll run much cooler since its an intel, and it has the trackpoint. If you haven't had a trackpoint before you'll love the thinkpad trackpoint. its way better than a touchpad. also the thinkvantage software is pretty neat as well, especially the power manager where you can set thresholds for your battery for better battery management. so yes you probably will like the thinkpad that much better ;).
