Another problem with my T400, perhaps it is the problem leading to my original one with poor(er) battery life compared to other users with basically the same config.

There is a buzzing noise coming from the top part of the laptop (towards the screen), I think it might be the battery, it's not the harddrive nor the dvdrom, but the buzz does go in tact with harddrive activity. I have removed the keyboard to try to find the source, but it's still hard as we're not well equipped to find sources of high-pitched noises.

And it's more irritating/noticable than the regular harddrive seek noise, it gets even more irritating as the fans are almost never running and I'm using a noiseles SSD :| Halp.

Yeah I know what you mean... I can't help you out on this issue but I know what you feel!

My desktop motherboard is doing the same thing...high pitched noise... It have to do with a capacitor or something like that. I've had this comp for 3 years now... I can tell you after 1 year you wont ever notice it... until then.. good look fixing this annoying sound!

I've further dismantled about everything from the MB, and the noise is coming from or right next to the battery/battery connector. I haven't been able to check if its the battery itself or some capacitor? on the MB, but I've devised a scheme to test that ;) And yes, the noise is almost totally eliminated if running plugged in.

One thing is the noise, another is knowing that it could point to the cause of my too high battery drain compared to others with the same setup. Makes me a sad panda.
