Hi everyone, I just got my T400 laptop today, and also I bought a 120 GB SSD (OCZ, Solid Series).

I tried the lap as it came with a 250GB hard drive and it worked fine. Then I removed this hard drive and put in my new 120GB SDD, and now I get this message:

PCI System Error on Bus/Device/Function 0008h
PCI System Error on Bus/Device/Function 0100h

A disk read err r occurred
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I havent any experience with hw in laptops, but I thought it shouldn't be a problem to install a SSD in this one..? Anyone who knows what may be wrong here? Is the hard drive defect?? Is it not compatible with the T400? (The ports looks bit different when I look at them, but idk, its not that much difference either, looks like it should be able to fit..)

Are there any tricks to make this work, or cant I use this SSD in the T400?

    Any replies greatly appreciated *frustration*

Any suggestions on this one? Surely, someone has to have some experience changing hard drive in thinkpads? Would appreciate any ideas here

Plenty of experience, but I've not seen this issue. I know OCZ has their own forums. You might wish to post over there as they're probably better versed on the subject of their drives. Which drive is it, specifically?

Did you try setting the SATA controller to compatibility mode rather than AHCI (or vice versa)? For example, XP will not install if you have the controller set to AHCI (you need to install XP, then the SATA driver).

I have not installed OS, if I use the OS-cd, I get bluescreen after the OS has been loaded..

Im almost 100% sure I cant get in BIOS, but I will try again. If not, Ill try to install the hd in my stationary and look if I can reach bios to change settings there. Thanks for advice on changing sata controller to compatibility mode, jonlumpkin, I will try that!

Uh ok it works lol, apparently I just had to install OS.. xD I dont know why I got that message though, maybe its just a normal message to get when you boot a hd that hasnt been formatted. Anyway, thanks for your help, the compatibility mode suggestion was what I needed! :)
