    Hi everyone,

I've just downloaded Power Manager 2, which finally is allowing me to change the 'lid closed' behavior on my T400 to set it to 'do nothing' while on AC power. For some reason, it wouldn't do so before I updated Power Manager; it kept reverting to 'sleep.'

Anyways, regardless of why, the problem is solved. I'm happy with the change, but now I'm wondering what people think about using the built-in speakers while the lid is closed. I was just playing some music and thought I would test to see what happened, and it still plays and everything while closed, although it sounds a bit muffled.

Is this likely to damage the machine in any way? It seems like it's a bad idea, but I can't really think of any examples of reasons why. It's not something I urgently need to do or anything, but it is a curiosity. What do people think?

    Thanks for your help!

    Isaac

The speakers are covered up when you close the lid so of course the music will sound muffled

I don't think it would damage the laptop in any way but you could get some cheap external speakers so you would not have to worry about it

Well I'm glad that mystery is cleared up. But seriously, I was thinking that it might cause vibration that would be bad for the screen or the hard-drive or something. Any thoughts?

That's definitely possible. You should just get some cheap external speakers like geauxtigers said. It's the best possible solution.

Unless you're playing your music or something cranked up to the maximum volume, I don't see it being a problem, especially the hard drive. (It will definitely sound muffled, though.
