i'm using Windows 7, i had installed HOTKEY successfully and everything work well, but when i'm using VGA X4500 and press combination key fn+home/end to increase/ decrease brightness ==> the brightness meter don't appear![]()
but it will appear if i switch to ATI graphics card!!

Do you have the System Interface driver installed as well?
-
yes, i have installed System Interface Driver through System Update successfully...but the brightness meter don't appear too. fn+ the orther key (lock,wifi,battery,standby...) is work well but fn + (home/end) will not display the brightness meter (although we can adjust the brightness!)

I have NEVER had the brightness meter in Windows 7.
It hasn't really bothered me because I do have the visual feedback of the screen getting brighter/dimmer. -
But in my case, the brightness meter will appear if i use ATI graphics card. Can't see the brightness meter is inconvenient!

I've seen in other threads before that it is some kind of conflict between the Intel and Lenovo drivers, so this doesn't surprise me at all. On my X200 I was not able to see the brightness meter on either Windows Vista or Windows 7. Sometimes after a few sleep/resume cycles, it magically starts to work, and then it stops again. No clue why.. I really hate it but I guess I just gave up on trying to fix it. If you search the forum or on google along the lines of "Thinkpad brightness OSD" you'll find tons of results lol

I didn't get any of the meters until I went to Lenovo's Windows 7 beta drivers page and downloaded/installed both the Hotkey driver and the System Interface driver.
System Update is not fully compatible with Windows 7 at this time. You really should go to Lenovo's Win7 beta drivers page, since the drivers downloaded by System Update may not be the correct ones. Here's the link:

I have installed the system interface driver. I do get overylays for volume, the only thing I'm missing is brightness.
My money is on the Intel graphics driver for Windows 7. It's gotten better, but it still crashes every once in a while and is otherwise not in perfect order. Hopefully a proper Windows 7 Lenovo driver for the GMA 4500 will be released soon (I'm using the one found by Windows update right now). -
I'm thinking you're on the right track John, as I have the Quadro NVS 140, and the brightness control works for me.
T400: on Windows 7 can not appear the brightness meter!!
