Been lurking in this forum so thanks for all the help :)

I have put this together with my discount and want to know what people think. I could wait for the T410, but these seem heavily discounted right now. No gaming, just a home machine for family usage. Watching .mkv and avi, maybe some photoshop and RAW editing. Thoughts??

Well the 410 IS going to be getting a refreshed ATI card... a 4xxx, maybe a 5xxx, but that doesn't seem likely.

Supposedly the ATi 5000 series will not be out by the time the T series refresh comes out.

As for the config, if all you will be doing is watching movies and doing family things (photos, internet, MS office, ect) then the base configuration for half the price will more then do. Heck you can go even cheaper and gran an R series for slightly cheaper and do the same things with great ease.

    The 410 is getting a dedicated/discrete card?

What would I be giving up losing if moving to the R series?

I like my laptop to not be heavy and easy to move around mainly. Good bettery life and a decent screen.

    Thanks!!

I don't think the R series offers WGXA+ as an option for your screen. Also I just hear that the T series is just more solidly built and more reliable. For what reasons I don't know why though.

    edit: found some stuff

    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:expandcategory?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=8FA114A7D9FF4F38AE8E19B36EC665A7&tab=3#tab-container-4&AID=10594818&PID=3640576

"The T is significantly more ruggedly constructed. The structure is built around a magnesium cage that's designed to hold up significantly better than the R series construction. The R-series uses mostly ABS plastic in it's structural components with significantly less metal being used - ergo significantly less rigidity of the frame, and significantly higher instance of structural failure due to wear. That is to say, that the hinges are more likely to break in the R series versus the T series. Both are decent machines; but the T series will take more abuse from day-to-day activities." quoted from some dude on some site

Also the R400 is slightly thicker and heavier than the T400

Hope this helps :) I'm buying a lenovo soon too and I'm going for the T400 just because I'm following what the general crowd here is saying

    cassiohui,

I don't think the 400s has a dedicated GPU option.

    Damahuob-

thanks for the info you found. I thought it might be the build quailty and screens.

The real question is price point today.......

Wait or is this a decent discount right now?
